American marriages fail at an alarmingly high rate. Love and marriage are difficult. Even casual work relationships can spiral down into conflict and avoidance. Most people find it hard to love themselves, much less any other flawed human being.
These handouts have been used in workshops and retreats to help marriages and relationships succeed. If you learn one concept from them, then perhaps your relationships at home and work will improve.
I believe we are all selfish, some more than others, but all have a best self, a part of us that is loving and unselfish, willing to sacrifice for what is best for all concerned. In crisis, mothers sacrifice their lives for their children, soldiers for their comrades and even older children accept punishment for misbehaviors of their younger siblings.
Maybe some of your relationships have been broken by selfish or thoughtless words and deeds. Maybe you want to promote more of your best self to those who seek your love and care.
The materials in this section are proven in couples counseling and training to improve what happens between you and those who matter most in your life. If you need more ideas and support, please call me at 509-466-6632.
